Tips for Supporting Immune Health and Overall Wellness

The immune system is a very complicated and involved system designed to keep your body healthy and maintain proper balance (homeostasis). It seems like almost every year there comes a time when researchers and educators opine on the idea of what strategy will work best. The good news is that most of what we should do is simply common sense.

Sleep

Probably one of the most important things a person can do is get the proper amount of SLEEP. During sleep the body is attempting to process all of what has happened throughout the day and to make the necessary repairs and perform the required steps to be ready for tomorrow. Lack of sleep will not only affect the immune system but will certainly impact the body as a whole. Most adults need between 7-9 hours per night and it is suggested that children need even more. I know that there are discussions that suggest that as we age that we need less but truthfully you still need about 7 hours to perform as your best.

Diet

The next thing is to address your diet. Make sure to eat more healthy fresh food options (fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds that include valuable good fats, fish like Wild Caught Salmon) and limit the processed foods like white breads, pastries and especially foods and beverages loaded with refined sugar, as much as possible.

Make sure to stay hydrated. Believe it or not, a very large number of us walk around everyday having not consumed enough water. We should even consider including fermented food in to the diet. Things like kimchi, real sauerkraut and maybe even kombucha. These fermented foods contain valuable beneficial bacteria that supports digestive health. Really just focus on including healthier options every day. Don’t make this one a task of guilt but rather look to find ways to make this fun. Food and eating should bring pleasure and enjoyment. Explore more food that have bright colors. Certainly not the artificial colors.

Exercise

Exercise is an important part of staying healthy and keeping life in balance which in turn will support immune health. I don’t mean that we should all of the sudden spend hours running or in the gym. I talking about simply being a little more active each day. It can include a brisk walk around the neighborhood or possibly take a bike ride. Now of course if the gym is your interest just keep in mind, it is important to work the body but try not to over work it. The extremes can sometimes work against you.

The key is, “Just be Active!” Of course, with any strenuous activity make sure to get a checkup with your doctor to make sure that you are good to go.

Stress

Managing your occasional stress is an important part of life. Stress is what I call “a silent poison.” The stress that can affect us each day, should be managed properly. Things like exercise and diet have a positive impact on how stress affects us. It is vital, as I mentioned earlier, that exercise/activity be an important part of your day.

You may also want to consider breathing exercises, meditation, or perhaps yoga in order to relax and help release many of things that accumulate each day. Taking time to clear your mind may reveal different paths on how you might address the things that cause us stress. Keep in mind that stress impacts our digestive environment. Have you ever felt a reduced appetite when you are stressed out? This is because there is this connection between the brain and gut. Scientists have called this the “Gut Brain connection.”

What is also interesting is that stress can sometimes impact digestion. It is important to be relaxed at meal time. We need to take our time when we eat. Try not to be in a rush. This may increase digestion which will support the body as a whole. It is a well-known fact that in our digestive tract resides 70% of our immune system. It is vital that we maintain a healthy digestive system so that our bodies will operate optimally, especially our immune system.

Dietary Supplements

Dietary Supplements may also play a role in supporting the body and healthy immune function. One of the more important tools can be a probiotic. The reason for this is that, as I just mentioned, 70% of your immune system resides in the gut. Probiotics help to support digestive health and help maintain microbial balance in the digestive system. These important beneficial probiotic bacteria aim their focus on supporting balance.

Probulin was founded on the principle of using probiotics to support digestive health and immune function. We did this primarily by formulating supplements with important documented strains of probiotic bacteria deployed using a scientifically studied delivery system called MAKTrek 3-D Probiotic Delivery System. This system was designed to make sure that you have better survival of the supplemental probiotic bacteria that you take. If the bacteria survive better, they can do more to support your health.

We believe that the digestive environment is the first and potentially the most important environment to support and keep healthy. I think it is a good idea to take a probiotic every day.

Other supplements that could also be good tools to consider to support immune health hand function may include:

  • Elderberry Extract
  • Vitamin C
  • Garlic
  • Vitamin D3

I hope that this helps to shed just a little light on what you can do to support your approach in supporting your immune system. I hope and pray that you stay healthy and well.
